TAKEOFF PHASE 7. It is essential for all of the control staff to remember that it is vital to the success of the operation for all aircraft to take off in time, No effort is to be spared to achieve this end. "H" HOUR 8. A general broadcast will be made over the loudspeaker system when personnel are to don protective clothing and when they are to take precautionary measures e.g. Final venting of buildings, opening side windows and windscreen~, placing vehicles "end on" to blast etc., prior to evacuating to their pre planned positions. 9. When the final order to evacuate buildings and vehicles is given, personnel are to move to their pre- briefed positions immediately, sit down with their backs to the South East and cover their eyes with their hands. 10. Personnel are to "Freeze" in this position until the "all clear" is given over the loudspeaker. 11. Immediately after the "all clear" they are to return to their place of duty "at the double" RECOVERY PHASE 12. Personnel are to report to their place of duty within seconds of the "all clear" and report the serviceability state of their vehicles and equipment to the S.A.T.C.O. 13. The S.A.T.C.O. will assess the overall damage and serviceability state and will decide whether it will be possible to continue controlling from the Tower. If this is not possible, the S.A.T.C.O. will give the executive order for the stand-by control facilities to take over the Recovery Phase. DEBRIS CLEARANCE PARTY 14. The Debris Clearance Party will be equipped with a landrover and are to be positioned in the immediate vicinity of the Tower. 15. The party is reminded that their speed and efficiency is vital to the Recovery Phase as it is essential that the runway is cleared of Debris within 10 minutes after "H" Hour to permit the first aircraft to land safely back on the airfield. 16. Detailed orders for the Party are as follows: Clearance of Runway (a) Immediately after "H" Hour, the Party is to proceed along the RUNWAY from West to East and remove all debris. Debris is to be either moved clear of the runway or loaded on the truck, whichever is considered to be the most expedient. Clearance of Taxiway (b) Directly the runway has been cleared, and not before, the party is to commence clearing the TAXlWAY from the East to the West working in a Southerly direction behind the tower. 17. The Wing Commander Flying will be on the airfield to direct clearance of debris and should there be any difficulty in removal of large debris, he will call on the Pye Radio for the assistance of the Technical Salvage Party (See paras 18, and 19.) 18. Should the "Drop" Valiant crash on take-off, the above two parties located on the Auster Access Track will go into action immediately in conjunction with the Fire Crews and the Runway will be cleared soonest.
