Educated at Norwich Technical College, he entered the Royal Air Force in 1940. In recent years he commanded R.A.F. Station, Shaibah, Iraq. and in 1953 he was appointed personal staff officer to the then Air Member for Personnel, Air Chief Marshal Sir Francis Fogarty. He won the D.F.C. during the war and has since been awarded the O.B.E. |

The man who dropped the bomb was Flight-Lieut. Alan Washbrook. 36-yearold navigator and bomb aimer, of Blackburn. He is a cousin of the England cricketer, Cyril Washbrook. |
