FORWARD

Each operation on Christmas Island brings with it its own interest both to those who take part in it and those who only read about it in the newspapers. Few on the island regard any operation as a  privilege but it is a privilege to be able to witness one of the great man-made miracles of this century. When the story of these years comes to be written the events an Christmas Island will loom large in the annals and those of us who saw one or more of the experiments will remember the fact and be proud of it.

Many people, named and unnamed  have written the articles in these pages which try to present something, but not all, of the story leading up to 20th April, 1958. This booklet is issued as a souvenir of the event and as a tribute to all these who took part in it or in the preparations for it.
