After Training I was posted to 71 Fd Sqn at Hoo, Chatham. We then joined 28 Fd Regt at Erlestoke, Devizes. We left Southampton on the Charlton Star in April 1956. When on the Island I transferred into Works Services Drawing Office at Main Camp. I left the Island in May 57, 2 weeks before the first bomb. Flew back as rear guard party via Singapore and Malta  to Erlestoke UK.  Having been deferred, I completed my National Service in August 1957 aged 25.
