20 Dec: Thurs. (8.30 pm)

    Got paid this morning - £1-0-0 for fortnight. Went on hike to big lagoon with Johnny and Don intending to do some fishing. We couldn’t get near the water because of very soft sand.  

    On the way back we got lost in a coconut plantation and when we eventually found the road we were about 4 miles from camp. Got lift from a Major in a jeep.

    Don found a very old baseball bat near a pill box which the Yanks must have left when they occupied the island during the war. Today has been the coolest since we arrived and has been a welcome relief.
